According to a statement issued by the Yreka, California, police department, Edwin Enoc Lara was apprehended Tuesday morning and is being held at the Tehama County Jail on an unspecified bail. If convicted of the federal charges, Lara faces a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years and up to life in prison on the firearm charges, a maximum sentence of fifteen years for carjacking and twenty years for kidnapping. ![]() Lara is also facing separate state charges in Siskiyou County, California including attempted murder and assault.Īn indictment is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant should be presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. ![]() Lara is currently in custody in Deschutes County, Oregon where he is facing state charges for aggravated murder in connection with the death of Kaylee Sawyer. The RICO conspiracy alleged in the complaint involves the commission of both state and federal crimes, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, drug trafficking and money laundering offenses. But Maes was later released after authorities learned Lara had allegedly kidnapped her. The defendant’s federal charges are related to an alleged July 2016 carjacking and kidnapping of a female victim in Salem, Oregon and taking her to California. Officers also detained his car’s passenger, Aundrea Elizabeth Maes, a 19-year-old from Salem, Oregon. – On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, Edwin Enoc Lara, 31, of Redmond, Oregon was indicted by a federal grand jury in Eugene, Oregon for carjacking, kidnapping, and two counts of brandishing a firearm. A small Northern California town was rocked by a shooting, kidnapping and carjacking on Tuesday, all allegedly committed by a man and woman from Oregon who led police on a high-speed chase before. ![]()
